Cream cheese gives Apple Bavarian Torte an irresistable, rich flavor.  Just one slice and you'll be yodeling for more!

Ingredients

  • Crust: 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • Cheese Mixture: 1, 8 ounce package cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • Apple Mixture: 6 medium apples, peeled, cored and sliced
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup almonds, sliced

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  2. Cream butter, sugar, vanilla and flour. Press crust mixture into flat bottom of springform pan. Set aside.
  3. In medium bowl, blend cream cheese and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Pour cheese mixture over crust.
  4. Gently toss apples with sugar and cinnamon. Spread apple mixture over all.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 400 degrees F, continue baking for 25 minutes. Sprinkle almonds over top of torte, continue baking until lightly browned. Cool before removing from pan.
