Hi Jenni, I think the article you're referring to which recommends not using an enclosed box was "Litter box maintenance 101," not this article. They suggest a litter box without a lid for better ventilation. Each article was written by different authors, who merely have a different preference. It is up to you on which is priority: Having a well-ventilated litter box without a lid, or having a lid so Kitty can have privacy and won't spread litter everywhere. As a cat owner myself, I prefer the latter.

I'm confused - the article says not to use enclosed boxes, but every one of the recommended boxes are enclosed....
