Hero dogs

Amazing Rescues By Canine Heroes

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, a hero is "a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life." These same qualities extend to our four-legged friends who have, time and time again, exhibited selflessness and courage in challenging situations.

Police dogs: My heroes!

You can't help but have great respect for the many K-9 members of police forces around the world. Their intelligence and acute senses of smell and hearing give them capabilities that far exceed those of their human partners. As pups, they are trained by their police officer partners/handlers, work alongside them and live with them as a beloved part of their families. Among other things, these dogs can search for and capture suspects, find lost kids, chase down and attack assailants, sniff out drugs and bombs, and rescue people from burning buildings. Sadly, like their human counterparts, they are sometimes killed in the line of duty. K-9 officers who lose their lives on the job receive the same respect and honor as any other officer who has lost a life, and rightfully so.

wow...this is so heartbreaking....yet so admirable, of how a dog puts his life in danger by going in the middle of the highway to save a hurt dog across the street...
