The Cypress Hotel, located in Cupertino, California, is very pet-friendly. Part of the Kimpton boutique hotel chain and hailed as the only four-diamond hotel in the area, pets of weary travelers are welcomed. The hotel advertises special amenities for all four-legged friends, including pet beds, pet food and water bowls. And that's not all.
According to one Redditor, whose girlfriend's mother was a guest at the Cypress, housekeeping will also bring a pet fish to your room as an overnight companion. The guest's goldfish in a bowl came with its own personal introduction that read, "My Name is Virgo. 'Bloop, bloop.' I am here to keep you company during your stay with us and ensure that it is an enjoyable one! You don't have to feed me or change my water, I prefer room service."
Travelers have checked in on Foursquare to rave about the hotel's outstanding service, made memorable by the pet goldfish left by housekeeping. One Yelper adds, "I really get a much bigger kick than is warranted by asking for my very own in-room goldfish."
This special treatment may be available at all 62 Kimpton hotel locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. Guests are expected to kick back, relax and enjoy the company of a live goldfish in their room. Housekeeping is responsible for feeding and caring for the bonus guest.
Kimpton Hotels began its Guppy Love program way back in 2001 to give a whole new meaning to "creature comforts." Live fish are available upon request in guest rooms, as well as in on-site conference rooms and banquet halls.
For those who travel regularly for business or pleasure, every amenity counts. I know that for myself, traveling can be a whirlwind of excitement, exhaustion and even loneliness. Whether spending the night in a hotel alone or with my husband, this friendly gesture would put a smile on my face.
The Cypress Hotel seems to know a thing or two about comfort and customer care. Not only does the hotel embrace furry friends with open arms, but it realizes the value of a soothing in-room animal companion to take the edge off a trip away from home.
A live goldfish brought to you by housekeeping — silly or sweet? Call me crazy, but I can't think of anything more relaxing than watching a fish swim as I drift off to sleep.
