Robin Herman of Lucky Dog Retreat Rescue in Indianapolis took Adam the 2-year-old black Labrador in June after seeing him on a pet rescue website.
It didn’t take long for the staff at the rescue center to realize that Adam’s hair was falling out and his skin was becoming inflamed. Adam was taken for a blood test after he did not respond to food, special baths and a course of antibiotics.
That’s where they found the problem. Adam is allergic to human dander, the particles we constantly shed from our skin and scalp.
“I didn't believe her at first,” Robin said of the veterinarian's verdict. “I thought she was kidding.”
Well, this is no joke. Luckily, Herman was able to find a vet who was able to create an allergy serum similar to allergy shots given to humans.
Hopefully, the immunotherapy continues to work for Adam so he can find a home with a human that does not make his allergies act up.
