GLenwood Caverns

Whether you are up high in the air on the alpine coaster or underground discovering stunning formations in hidden mountain caverns, the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, Colorado has plenty of excitement for families to enjoy together.

The Cliffhanger Roller Coaster takes the bravest on board for an edge-of-the-cliff wild ride. If you can keep from squeezing your eyes tightly shut during the sudden dips and drops, you'll be treated to a 360-degree panoramic mountain view. This ride is a little too intense for younger kids or anyone cautious about heights! Fun without the fright is ready and waiting on the more family-friendly Wild West Express, a kid-sized coaster that bumps and dips its way around the park. How about taking an easy walking tour through the largest show cave in Colorado? Glenwood Caves and historic Fairy Caves offer guided walking tours most can manage through huge underground rooms tucked away deep beneath Iron Mountain. You'll enjoy amazing natural scenery with thousands of formations (stalactites and stalagmites are just part of the living caverns' system) to explore safely, on wide walkways with sturdy handrails. Most teens will also love the more adventurous Wild Tour -- an extreme two-hour caving experience through tighter, crawl-on-your-belly passages that twist and turn as they snake their way deep inside the mountain.

The 4D theater features moving seats and surround sound with many special effects that put viewers right inside the movies in a special sensory experience. Because of the sensation of moving seats, this is not comfortable for the youngest visitors and children under 3 years old must remain seated on an adult lap for the presentation.

Kids can dig for fossils and pan for gold at the Discovery Rock Sluice Box, or might like to try their hand and test their skills on the 32-foot high climbing wall.

Choose sides! It can be the good guys against the bad guys with an Old West shootout at the laser tag game. Climb on board the Wild West Wagon and follow the bumpy trail back in time as a narrator takes you on a journey to the days when Conestoga wagons navigated the mountains carrying early settlers west, or let your kids test their speed and skill competing for prizes in the fort-style maze. Meet the notorious gunslinger Doc Holliday at daily performances where he tells the tale of his fascinating life and famous friends, including the legendary Wyatt Earp.
