You won't find any of those little kiddie amusement park karts at Phoenix's F1 Race Factory -- these are the real deal! From the junior karts that will reach 25mph+ to the adult karts that exceed 40mph, this is a true racing experience.
After signing in and paying at the front desk, new racers go through a 10-minute safety briefing including what the various flags mean and how to respond to them. After that, it's time to get suited up! Race suits and helmets are provided (the suits are optional, but the helmet is mandatory) so you'll really feel like a real racer.
After that, it's off to one of the two 1/4 mile indoor tracks for your race. A typical race lasts about 12-15 laps, or about 8-9 minutes. Lap times are recorded, and you get a time sheet after your race, so you can race for bragging rights in the family.
Kart racing is pretty physical, so once you're done with your race you can grab a cold drink and a bite to eat at the Trackside Grill, relax with some video games in the arcade, or if you're looking for another challenge you can give the rock climbing wall a try. Need some karting gear or just want a t-shirt to remember a fun time? No problem -- check out the pro shop, too!
Junior kart drivers have to be at least 10 years old, and adult kart drivers must be at least 16. You're allowed (and encouraged) to bring your own full-face helmet or any other safety equipment you like. Weekends are busy, so expect a bit of a wait for the first available race if you go on a Saturday or holiday.
If you want to skip the wait, F1RF members can sign up for race times right on their website, get access to a special member's only check-in line, and get discounted race prices. If you're planning on a return visit (or ten or twenty), the membership is the way to go.
Most importantly, keep the rubber side down and have fun!
