Celebrate National Breastfeeding Month

August is National Breastfeeding Month and the first week of the month is World Breastfeeding Week. Breastfeeding is beautiful in all forms. In honor of the occasions, enjoy these sweet and touching nursing photos and learn why these moms chose to breastfeed — and what advice they'd give to a nursing mother who is just starting out.

When I found out I was pregnant the first time, I knew I wanted to do everything as naturally as possible. The more I read and learned, the more I trusted in my body to do what was right for my baby.

Breastfeeding was just a natural extension of that. I knew when I nursed my baby that I was doing the best, most natural thing I could do for him.

I know breastfeeding can be really hard at times. Especially in the beginning, but it's so worth it. When you look down at that milk-drunk face for the first time, your heart will melt. The best advice I can give is to stick with it. Seek out help from an LC (lactation consultant), go to mom's groups and trust that your body knows what it is doing. After all, you grew that amazing human being inside of you!

Ashleigh sums up the breastfeeding experience perfectly, in my opinion! I am now 52 and the mother of 4 grown children; I can look back and say that the time I spent nursing my infants was one of the best in life! Mothers, don't skip this precious experience for anything. Your baby will be healthier and hapier, too!!
