My kids (who are now adults) call my dad, "G-Dawg." LOL I called my beloved paternal grandmother "Nana." I would like my grandchild(ren) to call me "Nana" but after thinking about it, there was only ONE "Nana" in our family. She could never be replaced and it seems wrong for me to try to go by her name. We're Italian and the Italian word for grandmother is "Nonna." That's what I choose to go by. To the lady named Nancy who was looking for a unique nickname. I'm not sure if she will see this since her post was so long ago. I thought since her name was Nancy, GranNan would be very cute.

When my grandson was around 2 he started calling me Grandbaby . We figured it was because I used to call him my little grandbaby . Now he calls me Me-Me which is cute but I do miss the name Grandbaby because it was so unique .

my grandmothers were called Gammy and Mammam(this name was also put on her gravestone because that's who she was to the entire family). My inlaws are called, MamMa and Pappap or Pappy. My father is PopPop and my mother Gaga. I teased my daughter that i wanted to be called G-Mommma but she isn't going for it. Hoping to shorten it to G-ma, got my son in law's approval but still not my daughter.

My kids are lucky enough to have 3 sets of grandparents so we needed to come up with some alternatives. My mother goes by Gandmom. It was Grandma but the kids made it Grandmom. My Dad is Grandpa Grandpa to distinguish him form my stepfather who is Grandpa Norman and my stepmother is Grandma Charlotte. My mother-in-law is Nan but the best is my father-in-law. His name is Bernard but one side of the family calls him Uncle Buddy so when we had kids he became GrandBuddy. I love it because it is original. Sometimes the kids call him Grand Poo Ba. Funny how much you can plan but the nicknames come out of pure love and you can't stop them no matter how silly they are.

I just found out I am going to be a first time grandmother. So Excited. But what name do I use? I can't decide. All of my friends are already grandparents and have taken all the good names. My mother is Gingy to my children. My dad was Grangran. My sister is Mimi, my best friends are GranTee and Nana. I want something different. I looked at ethnic words for our heritage background and I don't really get these names. Oh well, may just let the grand figure it out.
