Birth of a Nation star Nate Parker gives his baby a name that may be inspired by his film's hero

Congrats are in order. Actor and director Nate Parker and his wife, Sarah DiSanto, gave birth to their fourth baby girl recently, and when choosing a baby name, all signs point to the beautiful couple gaining inspiration from Parker's latest film project.

Parker and DiSanto, who met at Penn State when they were mere kids, gave their baby girl a name that is imbued with meaning, particularly at this moment in our country's history: They named her Justice. Without any context whatsoever, the name Justice is pretty and melodic. But it's impossible to separate her name from Parker's latest and greatest project thus far. After trying for years to get enough funding, Parker announced he is directing and starring in The Birth of a Nation, which promises to be a very different film from the notoriously racist one directed by D.W. Griffith in 1915.

Parker's version centers on Nat Turner (a role he'll take on), the former slave who led a rebellion through Virginia in 1830. He has also cast Gabrielle Union and Armie Hammer to star in his directorial debut, which scored an impressive $17.5 million deal with Fox Searchlight Pictures after showing at the Sundance Film Festival.

Considering how Turner is a prime example of a person who has dedicated his life to seeking justice for African-American slaves, it's natural to wonder whether justice was on the brain when Parker and DiSanto were discussing baby names. Then again, there's always the possibility that Black Lives Matter factored in, as Parker made no bones about where he stood with this tweet:

On his Twitter page, Parker describes himself as an activist and filmmaker and writes, "We are the leaders we've been waiting for ... let's get to work!" Prior to receiving funding for The Birth of a Nation, he famously said he would put all other acting projects on hold because this one meant so much to him.

Anyone who is unfamiliar with Parker might not know that the Virginia native has an impressive résumé of film credits that includes The Secret Life of Bees and Arbitrage with Susan Sarandon. He and DiSanto have been married since 2007, and they choose to live as private a life as possible in Los Angeles with their awesome army of girls. That may all change in a few months when this film hits theaters everywhere — but it's sweet to know this couple has their priorities straight, and the proof is in their baby girl's name.
