When you're pregnant and find out the sex of your baby, your world begins to change. Shades of blue or pink (or gender-neutral colors!) begin flooding your thoughts, and your dreams of your daughter or son and the life she or he will lead become all the more vivid. So imagine what a shock it must be to go into the delivery room thinking you're having a girl, only to wind up with a boy.
That's just what happened to new mom Koto Nakamura last week. Her doctor had told her it was a girl, but she delivered a boy. The expression on her face — fantastically captured by her birth photographer — says it all.
The priceless look on a mamas face who was told she was having a baby girl but received a baby boy!! Talk about a big surprise!! Any one else get a surprise like this at birth? She reportedly first thought the doctors were joking, but in the end, she didn't care what sex the baby was. And that's the way it nearly always is for parents. We can wish, hope and pray for one sex or the other, but the baby we deliver almost always ends up being exactly the one we were meant to have. When you look back, it's hard to imagine it could have been any other way.
Congratulations to the family. This surely won't be the last unexpected loop that parenting throws them.
