Your tween needs to watch pint-size pop star Sophia Grace's new video

Tween pop that celebrates friendship and girl power? Yes, please

When a preteen pop star releases a new single, an angel loses its wings. Usually. But this time, Sophia Grace — the cutest 11-year-old on the planet — has somehow avoided everything that's usually cringe-worthy about tween pop.

Sophia Grace Brownlee is a YouTube superstar and personal pal of Ellen DeGeneres. In her new video "Best Friends," she basically just hangs out with a bunch of friends doing friend stuff. They put on makeup, try on clothes, go shopping — and sing about how they don't need boys in their lives.

It's a silly video at face value, but encourage your daughter to listen to the lyrics. They're fun and bold and surprisingly empowering:

When they don't understand "no," it means no, no, no, no
We don't want no boys 'round here

It's awesome (and relieving) to hear cute, age-appropriate pop music with a female empowerment twist. But we shouldn't be surprised. Sophia Grace hails from the home of the Spice Girls, the original princesses of girl power.
