Cute teacher gift craft for the holidays

I started blogging in 2007 at, and more recently, at I mostly love to sew but also love to use a lot of hot glue.

Make a cute and easy custom book bag

Your preschooler will be so excited to make this adorable book bag as a holiday gift for his favorite teacher. Foam stamps and permanent ink create a charming and personalized tote to carry around teacher essentials.

Supplies needed to make a personalized bag:

  • Blank canvas bag
  • Foam letter stamps
  • Foam shape stamps
  • Large, permanent textile ink pad
  • Ribbon

Prepare the bag

Because you are buying an already-created bag, it needs to be washed and dried before stamping to remove sizing or other chemicals that will interfere with the ink adhering to the canvas. After it is cleaned, press the bag to create a flat surface on which to stamp.

Create the art

Using the foam stamps and ink, allow your preschool artist to create the design on the bag. Help her line up words with a clear ruler. Your teacher will surely appreciate the beauty of any imperfections, so don't stress this part!

Finishing touches

After the ink is completely dry, follow instructions on the label to heat-set the pigment, typically done with a hot, dry iron. Tie a coordinating bow on one of the handles.
