Dress up your baby

Your baby may not be old enough to trick or treat, but these easy-to-make Halloween costumes will turn your bundle of joy into the talk of Halloween night! From DIY sushi costumes to bodysuit crayon costumes, discover how to craft up these simple DIY onesie Halloween costumes for infants.

Dress up your baby

DIY sushi baby costume

Cute enough to eat, this sushi Halloween costume can be switched up with your favorite fish by changing the color and shape of the felt, from pink tuna to orange prawns — tail and all!

Dress up your baby

What you'll need:

  • White baby onesie
  • Orange felt
  • Light pink felt
  • Pencil
  • Black felt
  • Iron-on adhesive
  • Iron (no steam)
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun

What you'll do:

  1. Wash and dry your onesie body suit to make your baby costume ready to wear.
  2. Then, take your light pink felt and cut out a rectangle with rounded edges in the size you want the fish on your baby costume to be. Fold your felt into quarters first, to make it easier to cut an even rectangle.
  3. Now that your felt base is ready, cut strips of iron-on adhesive to fit the back of your light pink felt rectangle and use the iron to adhere it according to the package directions.
  4. Next, use your light pink felt as a stencil to sketch out the same-sized shape onto your orange felt. Cut out your orange felt shape and cut into uneven strips to simulate the lines you often see in a piece of sushi fish. Don't forget to keep your strips in order.
  5. Now, remove the paper backing from your iron-on adhesive strips on the light pink felt and place it adhesive side down on the center of your youngster's soon-to-be Halloween costume. Use your iron to secure the light pink felt to the baby bodysuit.
  6. Now you're ready to lay the orange strips of felt down one at a time on top of the light pink felt base. Once you're satisfied with the spacing, glue them down with your hot glue gun.
  7. Finally, cut a strip of black felt for the seaweed and glue across the middle of your DIY baby costume and your little trick-or-treater will be ready to roll!

Note: For girls, you can adorn your sushi baby costume with a pink felt flower for "ginger" and a light green felt flower for wasabi!

DIY football onesie costume

Just in time for both Halloween and football season, this super-cute football Halloween costume is quick and easy to make without any sewing skills required.

Dress up your baby

What you'll need:

  • Brown baby bodysuit
  • White grosgrain ribbon
  • Iron-on adhesive
  • Iron (no steam)
  • Scissors

What you'll do:

  1. Wash and dry your onesie bodysuit to make your baby costume ready to wear.
  2. For a 12- to 18-month size costume, measure an 8-inch piece, six 3-inch pieces and two 6-inch pieces of grosgrain ribbon for a total of 9 pieces of ribbon.
  3. In order to keep your ribbon from fraying after washing, apply liquid fray sealant to the ends or carefully use a candle to "seal" the ends of your ribbon, being mindful not to melt too much.
  4. Once your ends are finished, use scissors and your iron to adhere a strip of iron-on adhesive to the backside of each of your lengths of ribbon according to the package directions. Allow to cool before removing paper backing.
  5. To create your lacing, lay your 8-inch piece of ribbon down the center of your DIY costume and iron it into place.
  6. Next, space the 3-inch pieces of ribbon perpendicular to and evenly spaced along your long piece of ribbon. Secure with an iron.
  7. Finally, place your two 6-inch pieces of ribbon above and below your lacing, without touching the other ribbons, and iron it into place with your iron. Now your bundle of joy is ready to score points for cuteness on Halloween night!
