Where cozy begins and ends
Let's start with where your baby will be spending most of their time... in the crib! While you may be going rustic all around the nursery, the crib is the one place that you want to look and feel soft. Mixing a rustic-style crib like the Kenwood Panel Crib (Restoration Hardware Baby and Child, $749) with textures that will warm it up, such as this Cable Knit Stroller Blanket (Pottery Barn Kids, $60) thrown over the end (not in the crib with the baby for safety reasons, of course) creates that layered, fall-inspired look you're going for.
Don't be afraid to add a little color to the nursery with bedding. In fact, those pretty, deep, rich fall colors are on trend for nursery decor and will be a nice pop to an otherwise neutral rustic backdrop. For inspiration, check out the options from Land of Nod, who knows colors and knows them well. Their Fitted Crib Sheet in Yellow Stripe or in Yellow with Orange Dots (Land of Nod, $29 each) could easily work for a boy's or girl's rustic, fall-inspired nursery.
Speaking of fall, we can't resist the Elephants in the Room Crib Skirt (Land of Nod, $49) as a cute addition to the crib. Featuring a border of graphic trees in fall-inspired colors and a funky yellow herringbone pattern edge, it is another sweet way to bring fall indoors to your baby's nursery.
Functional for fall
Every mom knows that storage is essential when creating a nursery. Even the littlest ones have toys that need to be tucked away at night and need a handy spot for those dozens upon dozens of diapers. With a rustic, fall-inspired nursery, getting creative with storage options could be the best part of designing this space! Start with the perfect place to quickly and easily throw spit-up stained onesies and miniature socks — a laundry basket. The natural fibers of the Water Hyacinth Hamper & Liner (Land of Nod, $79) have that rustic-meets-functional appeal.
For everyday storage — toys, balls, shoes and stuffed animals — we love the Store by Numbers Cube Bins (Land of Nod, $13 each), which come with a number printed on the front. Their soft linen-like fabric fits perfectly with whatever rustic, fall-inspired decor you already have in your nursery, and they will help give a place for everything your baby needs.
Can we all agree that there isn't anything cuter than a tiny little baby coat? Maybe a tiny soft wool peacoat for fall? We can't decide if we love the Marquee Letter Hooks (Anthropologie, $18 each) for how nicely they fit with our rustic-themed nursery, or because they offer an easy-to-use storage solution for those cute little coats, diaper bags and tiny baby hats that need to dry after exploring huge piles of fall leaves!
Falling head over rustic heels
We saved the best for last — hitting up Etsy for rustic, fall-inspired nursery decor that will have you wishing it was fall all year long. And this wouldn't be an article about rustic nursery decor without some pallet-esque items! The Farmhouse Picture Holder (Etsy, $99) could be a fun, creative backdrop to the nursery, filled with photographs of family members, ultrasound shots and baby shower cards.
Every nursery needs a monogram — and when you're going rustic and fall-inspired, that monogram absolutely must be made from barn wood. Available in a variety of colors, the Barn Wood Distressed Rustic Nursery Wall Letters (Etsy, $65 each) are custom-made.
Keeping your baby's crib pillow-free is important for safety reasons, but that doesn't mean that you can't use a cute accent pillow or two to use behind your back when you nurse or give him a bottle. Antlers are very in right now, and when mixed with a cute moose, burlap and a colorful monogram, you have the makings of rustic, fall-inspired nursery decor success. The set of two Elk/Moose and Monogram Pillows (Etsy, $43 for two) can be customized with the colors of your choice.
