Like the aforementioned return to romance, this year is all about going back to classics where decor and accessories are concerned. “It’s all about out with the new and in with the old,” Reifel says. “Traditional china and gorgeous candelabras are replacing white square plates and untraditional centerpieces.” The result is a more sophisticated, delicate look that offers a timeless appeal.

Move over, cupcakes

While we still have a soft spot for cupcakes, they’re making way for a new sweet wedding treat, Reifel says. “Macarons are the new mini cupcakes,” she tells us. “They look lovely as petit fours or can be a pretty passed sweet on the dance floor.” Think about matching your macarons to your wedding colors or offering them two to a box as favors. Hot flavors to try: Blackberry, caramel, mango or lemon-lime.

Minimalist approach

Less is more this year when it comes to the menu. While we saw an influx of options the past several years, it’s time to scale back. “Instead of adding more stations, passed hors d'oeuvres or more specialty cocktails, truly enhancing three stations by adding specialty food items or even having special wine or cocktail pairings at each station can be more impressive than having six stations,” Reifel explains.

Interactive dance bands

Gone are the days of traditional bands or DJs. This year things are getting a little more interesting. “Couples are hiring bands that have musicians and singers that will interact with the guests on the dance floor throughout the night,” Reifel says. This is a great way to get everyone involved and ensure the evening is full of fun and energy.
