Troubled Love

The Breaking Dawn premiere this Friday will have Twihards flocking to theaters for their Bella and Edward fix. Despite the horde of Team Edward fans, this beloved couple has far too many issues to live happily ever after outside the movies and books. Below are the top five reasons why Edward and Bella would never work out.

Edward and Bella

Age: Not just a number

Edward might be trapped in the body of a 17-year-old teenager, but he has lived the life of a 100-year-old vampire. Edward is a worldly man who's lived through hard times, while Bella had the typical teenage upbringing (until moving to Forks). Over time, their love won't be able to endure these drastic lifestyle differences.

Conflicting values

Sharing the same values as your significant other is important in any relationship. Edward is an old-fashioned gentleman who believes in courting and saving yourself for marriage. Bella is a modern girl who believes in sex before marriage. They may have worked past that issue, but Edward's old-fashioned beliefs will likely be cause for future conflict – especially when it comes to their parenting style.

Obsessively devoted

Yes, we understand Bella and Edward are ridiculously in love and want to spend every waking moment together. However, they appear to be a little too codependent on each other. For starters, it's more than just a little creepy when Edward breaks into Bella's room and watches her sleep (stage five clinger, anyone?). Second, Bella seems just a little too willing to risk everything for him and doesn't think twice about trading her human life in for an eternity with Edward – hey, that's a big commitment!

The other man

Bella's relationship with Jacob doesn't turn into anything romantic, but we still can't forget their flirtatious banter, let alone the kiss Bella planted on him in Eclipse. While her love for Jacob is different than her feelings for Edward, we'll always wonder what tension and feelings will linger between the two.

Dangerous love

He's a vampire! He may be a vegetarian, but it's hard to forget about the drug-like effect Bella's blood has on him. His deep, nearly uncontrollable desire to drink her blood upon meeting is slightly disturbing, too. Thus far, he's been able to keep his vampire urges at bay, but you can never be too careful.

While I see you have some good points, in real life this wouldn't happen because there's no 100 year old vampires looking like a 17yr old. -- But I think Edward and Bella are amazing and it would actually work. Sure there are differences but they see past them. Because they have such a burning desire to be with eachother and make eachother happy there's obviously no question that they're willing to compromise (even if it comes to parenting), and I agree with TwilightFan that Bella was mature beyond her years. Of course he would know more than her and have more experience but there's something about her he's never seen/felt/experienced before. Therefore she had/has something to share with him, to teach him, that no one else.. up to this point has been able to offer.. And the self-control he demonstrates by not attacking her (for her blood) is awesome.. would actually happen, he's 100 yrs old of course he has more patience than most. Also, to tie this up because I don't want to leave a HUGE article (maybe longer than the one that was written above lol) I think more couples should share the willingness to commit that these two do! I think more people should share that kind of passion.. (regardless of time frames. Personally I'm old fashioned with my values, and I do believe in getting to know someone VERY well before making the kind of commitment that Edward and bella made with eachother, but they had no question about each other and that's why they felt so strongly so quickly and that's why it WOULD and DID work).

while I agree there are definitely reasons Bella and Edward would never work out, there are a couple problems with these. 1. Bella didn't have a completely normal upbringing. She says that she had to look after her mother, and now even though her mother has a man to do that, she still worries about her. This may not make her as mature as a 100yr old, but she's definitely mature beyond her years. 2. Edward does not believe in waiting for marriage to have , he knows that his urge to drink her blood is much too strong to get so entangled in her body, where his urge might take over. That's all I have :) not knocking your story, because Edward and Bella would never happen in the real world. Just wanted to clear up those details!

There is so much wrong with Bella and Edward. This article is just the tip of the iceberg. Ya know how long Bella was romantically involved with Edward before deciding she wanted him to turn her so they could be together forever? About two weeks. Three tops. The timeline is a little fuzzy. Also, while a group mentality is natural in humans - even in supposed 'loners' - what Bella exhibits is more of a herd mentality. She is willing and fighting toward changing, quite literally, every fiber of her physical being and who she is to be a full-blown member of her chosen group (which, may I add, she didn't choose because they seemed like cool people, but because they were the most beautiful people at her school. Yeah. Great example there, Bells.)
