Colored gems

Engagement rings aren't just about diamonds. In 2011, jewelers and trend experts say that more and more women will be wearing engagement rings featuring colorful gemstones including ruby, sapphire, emerald, topaz and peridot.

Mixed metals

Though platinum and white gold are top choices in engagement rings, many brides-to-be will be sporting rings created from a combination of metals. A platinum band embedded with yellow gold seems to be a favorite. Twisted bands are also becoming more popular.

No ring at all

If you don't want an engagement ring, that's okay. Many couples are choosing to tuck away the money traditionally spent on an engagement ring and puting it toward their honeymoon or a down payment on a house. Skipping an engagement ring and exchanging very basic wedding bands will be a very hot trend in 2011.
