Getting Out
Of Your Rut

No matter how long you have been married, things can go stale for one reason or another. If you have fallen into a bit of a rut with your partner, incorporate these unique ways to rejuvenate your marriage.

Take a class together.

Stimulate your creativity and your relationship by taking a class together. Choose an unusual topic that interests you both -- anything from an Italian cooking course to guitar lessons to a tai chi class. Spending time together in an out-of-the-ordinary setting can rejuvenate your relationship and allow you to explore a different side to your partner.

2Have sex in the morning.

Many marriages go stale due to lack of sex. If you find that you are always too tired for sex before going to sleep, start having sex in the morning. Set your alarm an hour early and get down to business. It's a great way to start the day! Make an appointment for sex with your husband and stick to it.

3Make over your bedroom.

Turn your bedroom into a romantic retreat with a simple makeover. Create a relaxing atmosphere by getting rid of the clutter. Don't use your bedroom for storage; remove items from view if you must by tucking them into bins under the bed, drawers and closets. Remove the TV. Invest in candles and soft, luxurious linens.

4Get a new hairstyle.

Looks aren't everything, but you want your partner to stay attracted to you. If you haven't changed your hairstyle in years, it's time for a new 'do. And the new haircut isn't just for him; it will make you feel good about yourself, too. Don't just get a trim: Make the change noticeable. Consider adding soft highlights or face-framing layers.

5Start working out together.

If you have let yourself go a bit, get into shape and stay fit by working out with your partner. If you haven't exercised in a while, you can start out slowly with walks around the neighborhood or jogs at the park. Enjoy working up a sweat together as you improve your health.

6Play a board game.

Game night can be fun, but it can stimulate your marriage too. You can play an ordinary board game or spice it up. For example, play Scrabble but make all the words relate to romance or sex. The winner of the game receives a prize of his or her choice. Some prize ideas include:

  • Servant Night: For one night, your partner must do everything you ask to fulfill your needs. This could range from cooking dinner to being your sex slave.
  • No Chores Week: This opt-out prize allows you to get out of doing the dishes, taking out the trash or any other chore for one week.
  • Lazy Sunday: The winner is rewarded with lazy time and can sleep in as late as she wants, watch movies all day and enjoy uninterrupted lazy bliss.
  • Massage Night: The winner gets a head-to-toe massage, complete with body oil. This prize is a win-win for both of you.

This is really good advice. We've tried the having in the morning thing and we both would rather sleep!! I'm way more tired in the morning than in the evening. I like the idea of taking a class together. Learning together is always fun!
