Turn Up
The Heat

Summer time means more than just hot weather – studies show it can mean a hotter sex life, too. Why does heat make us so hot to trot? And how can you leverage that into maximum bedroom fun? We found out.

Warmer temps stir up passion

According to the 2008 Durex-sponsored Sexual Well Being Global Survey (26,000 people were surveyed in 26 different countries) hot, balmy climates like those of Greece and Brazil rank as the #1 and #2 countries whose citizens are getting it on more often than others.

According to Dr. Laura Berman, sex expert and author of The Book of Love, summer and romance have always been associated in our minds. Escaping from the cold and slush of winter feels like a reprieve and people are excited about shedding their winter layers and embracing physical pleasures by showing a little more skin... whether it's lying in the sun, swimming, or a little summer romance.

"Warm sun, sandy beaches, and light, airy clothing are very summery and sensual when they caress the skin. All of this adds up to a libido boost!" says Dr. Berman. She further notes that while everyone's sex life ebbs and flows, it's important to commit to working on your sex life and keeping it spicy: "Great sex lives don't happen overnight. Sex keeps you bonded to your partner, and it keeps your attraction and libido strong and active. Take advantage of summer's warm weather by having sex outside under the stars! Do on your picnic blanket, your outdoor deck or in the pool. The adventure of outdoor sex adds to the excitement and impromptu sex in the great outdoors is every man's fantasy."

good sex is good for you

The best part of the summer is that you don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy it. You can have a beautiful date night just enjoying a glass of wine on your patio and watching the sunset. The bottom line, Dr. Berman notes: A date that pumps up your adrenaline and gets your heart racing will ultimately lead to sex, and lots of it. Dr. Berman offers four tips to help you rev up your sexgines this summer.

feelin' spicy?1. Indulge in a waterproof vibrator.

After a day at the beach, take a waterproof vibrator into the shower with your man and have sexy fun while washing away the sunscreen.

2. Get inspired by shopping for sex toys together.

For the timid couple: Shop online. Those a little bolder can visit a real-life sex shop to see the products. Have him pick one out for you and vice versa.

3. Experiment with lubricants and arousal gels.

There are many different varieties available -- some that heat you up, others that make you feel all tingly. Simply rub some on your clitoris (or have your partner do the honors) in order to rev up your arousal and sexual response.

4. If you can't get away with your man just yet, then plan a little indoor fiesta.

Make margaritas, play island music and spread out a little picnic supper of summer fare like cocktail shrimp and fresh fruit. Wear bathing suits and maybe even apply a little suntan oil (the scent will take you right to the beach, if only in your mind!). Have sex in a different room other than your bedroom and show off your tan lines to your partner by changing it up with your sexual positions -- he will appreciate the view.

Here's to a summer full of fireworks, inside and outside the bedroom!
