Valentine's dates on the cheap

Valentine's Day is supposed to be about love, but so often it becomes more about expensive gifts and even pricier date nights, leaving even the most romantic of us feeling nothing but the holes in our wallets. Fear not! Here are some budget-friendly Valentine's Day date ideas to shift the focus back to you and your sweetheart.

Couple roller skating in park

We've decided it's time to shake things up a bit this Valentine's Day. You may still be feeling the post-holiday cash crunch, so we want to help you shift the focus back to happy couples having fun, rather than feeling like you need to break the bank to make V-Day special.

So grab your sweetie and check out our affordable date night ideas. Our criteria were simple: Creative, out-of-the-box ideas that utilize your community and the space around you. Oh, and everything had to be budget-friendly, of course.

Sexy skating

Depending on the weather where you live, we suggest strapping on a pair of skates and going either ice skating or roller skating. Your only cost is usually skate rental (and if you have your own, bonus!). Spend the afternoon gliding around a rink, holding hands with your honey and getting some exercise to boot. Afterwards, get a hot chocolate or head home for a glass of wine.

Be adventurous - together

Trying a new activity together is a great way to bond with your man. Indoor rock climbing is a suitable option since you need to do it in pairs. It's good exercise and you'll feel great knowing you tried something a little bit different. Some other options include trying a new fitness class (spinning if you want to get really sweaty, yoga or Pilates if don't) or learning a new sport.

Be a tourist in your own city

When was the last time you really went out and explored the city you live in? Chances are, it probably has a lot to offer that you've never even noticed. Go to your local library and pick up a guidebook for wherever you live. You and your Valentine can spend the day taking pictures, checking out local monuments, wandering through parks and discovering neighbourhoods you've never been to. At the end of the day, make a list of all the places you want to return to!

Indulge

Going for a couple's massage or spa treatment can be very expensive. Why not recreate the relaxing atmosphere by having a spa night at home? Light some candles and run a bath complete with essential oils. Exfoliate each other with a loofah or sea sponge (which will make skin ultra-smooth). After soaking in a luxurious hot tub together, give each other massages and finish with some all-over moisturizer. Ahhh...

Prioritize

If you really want to go out to dinner for Valentine's Day, we suggest choosing a place you really want to try but skipping drinks and dessert. Instead of spending the extra money at the restaurant, make sure you have a bottle of wine and something sweet to indulge in at home. That way, you get the best of both worlds, or, as we like to say, have your cake and eat it, too!
