Survey reveals wedding trends for 2016 are all about the quirk

When she's not writing, Claire Gillespie can most often be found wiping snotty noses, picking up Lego, taking photos of her cat or doing headstands.

Pork pie cakes and ring-bearing pets: Welcome to weddings, 2016-style

From SheKnows UK

Think you're being adventurous with your red velvet wedding cake? You're going to have to try a bit harder than that if you want to impress your guests. How about a pork pie or "naked" wedding cake?

These are just two of the trends spotted by wedding venue Heaton House Farm, who carried out a survey of 1,000 couples due to marry in 2016.

That's right: some newly-weds will be cutting into pork belly and pastry instead of icing sugar and buttercream (side of pickled onions optional).

Or you could go for the minimalist "naked" wedding cake:

Bite-size treats for guests instead of slices of cake is another popular trend, such as the macaron tier:

When it comes to the bridal party look out for four-legged creatures with wagging tails. Dogs — and, it seems, pugs in particular — could have pride of place at 2016 weddings.

From bearing the rings…

And stealing the show from the groom…

To gracing the top of the cake.

If wedding guests aren't full from all the pork pie, they might be tucking into fish and chips from a van instead of a traditional sit down meal.

Possibly followed by a 99.

Photo booths at weddings aren't anything new but more and more couples are choosing alternative forms of wedding photography — one in three of them say they'll use GoPro to capture their special day.
