Ho ho here we go! Ho-pefully, stage one (detox) helped you let go of the mostly joyless world you experienced prior to your breakup. Now, it’s time to continue your joyful "break-over" journey with stage two: the reboot. 'Tis time to shift your focus from he to me, reconnect and reboot that sense of self and sass!
Time to knock on doors, take up peeps on their invitations to engage in holiday cheer and visit with friends and families who will be more than happy to help you feel appreciated and special while ringing in the holidays.
Stop wallowing and feeling sorry for yourself over your ex, with whom you’ll realize — hopefully, sooner than later — you’re better off without. Instead, spend time helping those whom you truly feel compassion for. Go to a local food bank or children’s hospital and help serve holiday meals, participate in clothing drives, donate toys and bring warm smiles and hugs to those who truly need you to be nice.
Rescue a pet. Not only will it bring joy to these needy little animals, it will do the same for you. Plus, it will help you begin to give unconditional love again, just as my dog, Bagels, did for me. Woof to him!
Betwixt the holidays and your breakup, you’ve probably been stuffing yourself with foods that will add a notch or two to your belt. Take comfort: You can still enjoy yummy foods and save your waistline too! How? Mashed cauliflower!
My bud and owner of my fave detox elixirs: Lianna Sugarman shared how cauliflower nourishes and supports the systems most taxed by grief by helping detox and boost brain health, since cauliflower is rich in antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Simply sub it out for potatoes by steaming some up, then mashing them with 2 tablespoons of low-fat sour cream and spices like rosemary, tarragon and Herbes de Provence or crumbled feta. If you like it a bit creamier, add a little more sour cream or some low-fat milk, olive oil or Greek yogurt. Yum yum!
Traditionally, Santa gives these as stocking stuffers to those that are naughty — not nice. However, coal can be "nice" stuff to have around, since it can help further "cleanz" your home, mind and bod of your ex. Coal is a terrific odor absorber, water purifier and nutrient enhancer for flowers. Activated coal (i.e., not to be confused with your BBQ briquettes variety, but those found in liquid or capsules at your local health store) will help detox your bod and clear the brain, giving you the mental clarity you need right now! As with any substance, please check with your doctor to make sure it's OK for you.
Music at any time of year is a wonderful way to shift and lift your mood. During the holiday season, there are so many tunes to make us feel joyful and grateful. Here are a few to sing ding-a-ding to from Billboard's Holiday 100 to a pop playlist, or even a less-familiar tune that will give you goose bumps from The Voice’s Jordan Smith: "Mary Did You Know." Tra la la la la!
