Sweet Cakes bakery fined big money for their refusal to serve gay couple — yay!

Sweet Cakes is a bakery in Oregon that refused to make a wedding cake for a couple because they were gay and it was against their religion. Now a judge has ruled that what they did was wrong and they are being ordered to pay $150,000 to the injured parties. Can I get a hell yes?

The legal precedent of this case is interesting. Now, apparently, people are not allowed to discriminate using a religious excuse. Amen. Even better: The couple who was hurt now have plenty to spend on a better cake and a much better honeymoon (with money left over).

It's also not just about the legality, though. This is about right and wrong. It's about what truly makes discrimination and whether or not love truly conquers all (for the record: It does). I don't care what you think about gay marriage (actually, I do, if you are against it, you might want to rethink your values), Christianity is not about discrimination. And if you are running a business, you can't discriminate.

Love is love.

The fact that there are people in this world who will claim that these bakers are the ones being hunted is laughable. Try being gay. Try having it be OK that you aren't allowed to marry. Try having people tell you that your love is not worthy or that they will not bake your cake because the person you want to spend the rest of your life with disgusts them. If that's OK with you, then you are not an exemplary person. In fact, you are a rotten human.

And yes you should be fined. I have no problem saying that.

This couple has been through enough. They shouldn't be made to feel badly about their love. Period. As they say, it's not a "gay marriage" issue. It's a marriage one.
