Couple in conflict

Battle of the sexes

Men are from Mars and women are from Venus, right? Well this, in and of itself, should give you some idea of how you and your lover can be worlds apart when it comes to pressing matters like love, intimacy and who gets to be in charge of the remote. You can expect tensions to rise as Mars and Venus square off each against each other in the sky on Sept. 28. He'll want things his way and you will want things yours. But is this bad? Not necessarily. Just remember that you always need a bit of friction if you're going to rub two sticks together to make a fire.

ARIES (March 20 – April 18)

The difficulty with a Mars/Venus square is that you won't be able to leave well enough alone. You know that he has feelings for you and you also know that he can't really act on them right now. This sets up the kind of dynamic where you're supposed to be "friends" but you really aren't and it can get very frustrating. The best advice would be to steer clear of him for a while and trust that he will come looking for you when he has everything sorted out.

TAURUS (April 19 – May 19)

You're having a hard time trying to figure out your lover. You know that there's a lot of intense stuff going on in his life but whenever you ask about it, he changes the subject or grows quiet. This doesn't quite fly in our Dr. Phil society where everything needs to be shared, discussed and analyzed, but sometimes the best way to be there for someone we care about isn't to pry, but to simply listen. This kind of companionship is rare and precious and it's something that Taureans are especially good at.

GEMINI (May 20 – June 19)

This week you regain your equilibrium thanks to the sun being in well-balanced Libra. Libra is an air sign — just like Gemini — and each of us always does better when the sun is traveling through a sign that shares our element. Translation? No more anxiety attacks, jittery nerves and bouts of insecurity — at least for the foreseeable future. You will feel much more comfortable with yourself which means that you'll be more trusting of loved ones and less likely to bicker and argue. Libra energy brings you much needed peace of mind.

CANCER (June 20 – July 21)

You stick by people. Others may shirk their responsibilities, walk out on their commitments when things get tough, or worse — say they're going to be there and then not show up. But not you. You will always keep the light on at night for those you care about — even if they don't deserve it. It's just in your nature to be there for the ones you love. On Sept. 26 you will see your devotion and patience pay off when someone who left returns seeking your understanding and forgiveness.

LEO (July 22 – Aug. 21)

If you see yourself as absolutely right and your lover as absolutely wrong, then you are living in your own private Idaho. It's always wise to dial down the self-righteousness when Mars is in Leo. Mars in Leo makes egos bruise easily. A relationship is comprised of two people which means that there will always be another side to the story. Any time you're in a relationship that matters, then that's a story worth hearing. Open your heart and your mind and you'll be in a much better place by week's end.

VIRGO (Aug. 22 – Sept. 21)

The last quarter moon on Sept. 26 removes a final obstacle to your happiness. So why does this information leave you feeling despondent? Virgos have a hard time being in a real relationship. There's something about being involved with married men and/or unavailable types that bestows a certain freedom that you don't believe you could have otherwise. You can have this same kind of latitude if you like. You don't need his unavailability to be the defining factor. Take off the training wheels and give it a go. You won't be disappointed.

LIBRA (Sept. 22 – Oct. 21)

Your reasons for staying in a relationship may not be idealistic. And you know what? That's completely alright as long as you're OK with it. Maybe you're staying for financial reasons, emotional security or you're afraid that you will never find anyone else. There's a simple rule of thumb for deciding the pros and cons for yourself. Are you lonelier with him or without him? If you're lonely with, then that will gradually push you out the door. If not? Then there's probably more to your relationship than you are allowing for.

SCORPIO (Oct. 22 – Nov. 20)

You could choose to have the same fight or you could hit the psychic pause button and reflect. It's easy to give into knee jerk reactions when you've been with someone a long time. Familiarity can lead you to react without even knowing if you're truly upset. Maybe he's going through a funky period that has nothing to do with you? Take a couple of steps back and give him some space on Thursday and Saturday. Wouldn't you want the same if you were in his shoes?

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 21 – Dec. 20)

You thought you were on a love hiatus, but Venus in Scorpio has other plans in store for you. On Sept. 26 Venus will form a trine to Jupiter, your ruling planet. This is one of the most romantic cosmic configurations that you can hope to have, so chances are you'll be meeting someone who's looking to help you break your dry spell. But is this just a cloudburst or will it replenish near empty reservoirs? Given that the trine will be in watery signs there's every reason to hope for the best.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 – Jan. 18)

Everyone knows that Capricorn is a sign that's famous for hiding her true feelings. You're sensitive to rejection and tend to compensate for that by putting on an aloof demeanor. But did it ever occur to you that this could turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy? Like attracts like and you could wind up drawing cold and unfeeling types into your orbit if you're not careful. Lower the defenses and show off your warm and welcoming side this weekend. It's never too late to rewrite your romantic profile if you want to.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 19 – Feb. 17)

Are you getting too controlling? It's been known to happen to the most benevolent of dictators. Aquarians are often depicted as revolutionary and non-conformist but that doesn't mean that you don't have your own fixed ideas of what constitutes the perfect relationship. It's wise to remember that relationships are made up of two people. It will be abundantly clear that your partner has some ideas of his own on the 28th so it would be a good idea to listen up. You don't want a revolt on your hands.

PISCES (Feb. 18 – March 19)

You'll be indulging the senses while ruling planet Jupiter forms a trine to sumptuous Venus this week. This planetary energy will make you feel languid, luxurious and eager to satisfy your every whim and desire. It's not the time to go on a diet or to swear off any "bad" habits. Nor is it wise to pledge fidelity as you will probably foreswear it. Venus and Jupiter are all about joy and pleasure and you won't want anyone spoiling your fun. There will be plenty of time for that next week.
