If your significant other has gained weight and it's affecting your relationship, it might be time to ask him to lose weight. But, that's easier said than done. Here are 10 ways to get the message across, in some subtle and not-so-subtle ways.

The passive aggressive approach

If you're the passive aggressive type, start sharing articles on your own Facebook page about getting in shape and losing weight. You'll fill up his newsfeed, and hopefully he'll catch on.

Keep junk food out

Rather than have an awkward conversation, just start cooking healthy meals and keeping junk food out of the house. Keep fresh fruits and veggies handy, and he won't have a choice but to eat what's in front of him.

Give the gift of exercise

The next time a "gift-giving holiday" rolls around, buy him a gym membership. In order to get him to actually go, sign him up for a personal trainer or massage at the same time. If he seems offended, tell him you didn't know what else to get "the guy with everything."

Shrink his clothes

Maybe he's in denial about his weight gain. Dry all of his clothes on high heat so that they shrink a little. Then, when he is getting dressed, it could occur to him... "Geez, I'm getting fat!" That might be enough of a wake-up call to get him to change his ways.

If he ever criticizes himself for his weight, don't discourage him. If he says something like, "I feel fat," rather than the obligatory, "No, you're not," response, steer him in the right direction by saying, "Let's fix that!"

When you're winding down for the night, suddenly turn into that girl who recounts everything she ate that day. And then ask him what he ate. After he responds, he might realize he hasn't been making the healthiest choices.

If your activities together usually revolve around going out to eat and watching TV, change the itinerary. Start instigating different pastimes, like taking a hike, bike ride or even a walk. And on weekend evenings, suggest mini golf or bowling with friends. Every little bit helps.
