Check out winter sales at an interesting shop you don't normally visit and make a point of trying on colors and styles you consider daring. If you aren't in the mood to splurge, visit the nicest consignment or thrift store in your area, and comb through everything in your size. You'll have fun digging, and if you happen to find something you love, chances are it won't break the bank.
Choose a beauty treatment you never get and go for it. A manicure, a facial, you name it — just so long as you sit back and let someone else fuss over you for a while. Then you'll want to take the new and improved you out on the town.
Don't leave things to a spur of the moment decision: You deserve better. Decide what you are going to do with your evening and promise yourself to follow through. If possible, seal the deal by making a financial commitment to your plans.
Is there something you've always wanted to do but never get around to? If nothing comes to mind, check the events listings in your area. Not everything happening is for couples. There are partner-optional contra dances and tango classes, discussion groups, openings at art galleries, moonlight snow-shoeing expeditions and star-gazing at the local observatory. There are shelters and soup kitchens crying out for volunteers. Don't wait for something to grab you — tell yourself you have to do something, and then choose what appeals to you the most. You may discover a new interest or meet some new friends. Whatever else happens, you're getting out and trying something you want to try.
Let's face it. After a day and night of a brave new you, it's nice to come back to home comforts. Make sure you leave your place clean and inviting with fresh sheets on the bed and maybe some flowers on the table. Feather your nest with foods you love and a good book or an old movie to curl up on the sofa with and enjoy. Put your feet up and relax. You've survived Valentine's Day, possibly even enjoyed it. And tomorrow, after all, is a brand new day.
