Top 5 organic spas in the world

Travel Abroad
To Get Local

Summer may be over, but it's never time to surrender your relaxation rights. Still, the wealth of resorts and pampering trends to take into account when choosing a resort getaway makes it easy to get lost in the sea of options. We’ll help: Why not go the natural and local way? Many resorts now offer organic spa treatments to keep the pampering local while going global. Here are a few of our jet-set-able favorites.

Woman at organic spa

Omni Mount Washington Resort

Bretton Woods, New Hampshire

Nestled in the Presidential Mountain Range and White Mountain National Forest, the nearly obscured Omni Mount Washington Resort offers a luxurious escape and an organic treat for your body. The city slicker favorite has been revitalizing travelers and incorporating the natural elements surrounding them since 1902. Spa-goers will begin their relax-session with the new Herbal Cleansing Ritual — a treatment that changes by season and incorporates fresh herbs from the outdoor garden. The enriching experience allows guests to handpick herbs to mix into personal aromatherapy oil. What next? Steam room, sauna and cold deluge. Not enough? Handpick more herbs to be incorporated into your very own full-body Herbal Garden Treatment. Yo-de-le-sign-us-up.

The Dolder Grand

Zurich, Switzerland

You should have been sold at Switzerland. Convert your dollars to francs and head over to easily the most enchanting and beautiful places on earth. Zurich's 5-Star City Resort — or should we say castle — now offers Amala 100 percent Natural Spa Products in their 43,000 square feet of fairytale-land bliss. The signature Organic Seasonal Facial by Amala is 90 minutes of face rejuvenation accompanied by a lovely and relaxing foot bath of garden herbs. Our favorite Dolder Grand secret? They use lavendar in their chocolate and spa treatments. Surrounded by alluring and captivating views of Zurich, the The Dolder Grand Spa is a haven of repose and harbor of natural peace.

Sorrel River Ranch

Moab, Utah

This beautiful ranch-resort is as local and personal as it gets. Found along the lazy banks of the Colorado River and resting between the Arches and Canyonlands National parks, the Sorrel River Ranch is a southwestern gem. The ranch's garden manager, Jason Metz, tends more than an acre of the organic produce that finds its way into the resort's spa treatments — such as the energizing basil infused oil. Metz's wife, founder of Sister Root Medicinals, creates and sells natural concoctions such as the Birch Sunbutter SPF and Salve-ation for parched skin. Things get extra blissful when sipping on the resort's refreshing and earthy juice selection; take your choice from beet, carrot, prickly pear, cucumber, cilantro or ginger.

Hotel Caesar Augustus

Capri, Italy

Italy? Heaven. Crystal blue sea views? Heaven. Hotel Caesar Augustus? Heaven. We can't say it enough. This is our favorite option for those of us who need to completely de-stress and skip straight to zen mode. As one of the most beautiful places in the world, the resort aims to incorporate the entire Italian splendor surrounding it. The Italian getaway has an organic garden on-site and therapists who use energizing drops of resort-made basil, sage and rosemary oils in spa treatments. Italy's second lifeblood, olive oil, is often blended with the oils and used for massages such as Shiatsu, Bio-Energetic and Anti-Stress. On a plane yet?

Rosewood Mayakoba

Riviera Maya, Mexico

A dense green jungle situated along the sparkling serenity of Mexico's coastline is where you find our next destination. The Rosewood Mayakoba in the Riviera Maya of Mexico is one of the most exotic pampering spots in the world. Designed to unite you with the energies and the nature of the dense jungle, Sense Experience treatments make you feel embraced by it. Treatments such as the Mayakoba Signature Ritual are inspired by ancient healing traditions and fused with local jungle herbs and aromas to bring you right into the canopies of relaxation.

Great article! For some reason when I travel I forget about spas. I'm usually too busy site-seeing. This will have to change though seeing how many great spas are out there. Plus, the most important thing on a vacation is relaxation, which is exactly what these spas provide.
