How to make money blogging

Earn Big Money
With Your Blog

Blogging. Sounds like every woman's dream job. Stay home, set your own hours and write about your passion -- whether it be cooking, decorating, parenting, fitness or just everyday life. The question is -- is it possible to actually make a living off of this? And if so, how much could you make and how do you go about it?

Not surprisingly, it takes a lot to actually make enough money blogging to replace your full-time job. The truth is, only a very small percentage of bloggers actually bring in an income. And it takes months to get to that point. So before you quit your day job, follow these tips to start earning an income on your blog.

Find a following

First and foremost, you have to have a substantial number of readers to even think about making money. Get involved with the blogging community (by following other bloggers, commenting on their posts, emailing them, etc.), post your own entries on networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter and other blogs and share your blog with family and friends. The more readers you have, the more likely you are to be able to bring in a substantial income. To give you an example, a blog with 600,000 page views per month (yes, 600,000!) brings in between $6,000-$7,000 a month.

Advertise

Once you've generated a decent amount of traffic, start advertising. A good place to begin is Adsense. This is a free program run by Google, where you place Google ads on your website or blog and are paid per click. You get to decide what types of ads you want to display and where you want them displayed. As far as earnings, say you have 1,000 viewers per day and a click rate of 1 percent. At 25 cents per click, you will receive $2.50 per day. This isn't going to make you rich, but it does add up. And remember, the more page views you have, the more likely you are to be successful (again, if you have followers).

Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is another form of advertising where companies post an ad on your blog and you earn revenue either per click, per sale or per lead. This has many benefits to you as you don't need to pay anything upfront or even do anything for that matter, except, of course, be generating enough traffic so companies will want to advertise on your site. Amazon is a great place to start. All you need to do is sign up for their affiliate program and provide a link to the product on your blog. You will be paid if the reader makes a purchase from your link.

Sponsors

This is where companies pay you to post an ad on your blog. Sometimes, sponsors will find you and contact you directly. More often than not, though, you need to let people and companies know you are looking for sponsors. A great way to do this is through your own blog! Advertise how many page views you're getting per month and businesses will want to have a spot on your blog.

Doing all of these things is a great way to start making money on your blog. As you can see, it takes a lot of work, patience and dedication. Once you have the followers, though, the opportunities are endless. From simple ads all the way up to possible book deals, blogging can bring in huge revenue if done correctly.

Blogging requires many qualitites and talents. You must be gud at Inspiring others, You must be gud at communication, You must know the interests of not people of your type but each and everyone. You must be able to motivate people into doing things. You must be gud at writing. You must be choosy i.e. the topics that you write, The topics that you CREATE, the topics that you promote must be unique in one way or the other. One major requirement is that you must be Just about Perfect in all these areas. If you are not, then thr must be some1 who is, and he will get to the Top. The problem here is that, In Blogging, 99.99% of the money is concentrated in the Top 1% of the people. If you think you can reach the top, Go For It. Otherwise DONT! If you are new, an amateur, expect yourself to be capable to just compete by about 2 years experience time. By about 3 years, You will be making money almost equivalent to your Full Time Job. People quit usually in 6 months time. When this happens, the earnings all of them go the Big Bosses. i.e. the little earnings that they had made are gone and pile up from several thousands of people every 6 months and give huge benefits to the Big Companies like Google etc. Don't Quit. Keep Going. http://bit.ly/hugefacebookmoney

Making money writing blogs is a very legitimate opportunity that many writers have benefited from over the years. As a writer, you can learn effective ways of making money writing blogs to increase your earnings. The days are long gone where people wrote blogs just for pleasure alone.

My advice to readers would be this : Don't expect to start making money for at least 2-3 years. It's NOT going to happen overnight. Don't get discouraged if you have 0 comments on your blog and 0 followers, keep at it. Participate in guest blogging and write your blog's domain name as a signature. Do blog for fun! Think you found a good deal? Share it on Internet, let the world know! Be persistent, again, don't stop blogging. Blogs grow slowly and over some months or even over a year+ you might start building your audience! Use youtube to boost your blog visits! Many people don't think about youtube when it comes to promotions, but it's a great way to get noticed and promote your blog. Talk about things that bother you or what you've experienced, your views, reviews, finds, deals, travel, cooking etc. Happy blogging!

Thanks for your advice Sarah. She is definitely doing her blogs to help people, not for profit. It's only because she's getting a fairly high visit rate that I thought it might be worth investigating earning some money from it. I'll check out adsense and the sponsorship.

Hi Shaun, I definitely recommend trying to make money off of the blogs, just make sure she continues to blog because she truly enjoys it, not just to make money (when people become too concerned with earning money, blogging is no longer "fun" for them). I suggest signing up for Google AdSense. Google places ads on her blog and when people click them, she gets paid. Another way to earn if you're just starting out is by offering sponsors. Other bloggers will pay your wife to put their blog button on her blog (somewhere on the sidebar), as a way for them to gain traffic. Most bloggers offer sponsor spots that run for one month at a time, and they charge anywhere from $5/spot up to $100/spot. She will have to play around with pricing. Obviously, if she tries selling the spots for $100 and no one buys, she'll have to lower her price. If she sells them for $5 and constantly sells out, she can raise her price. Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck :)

Hi Sarah. My wife's three blogs have had around 250,000 visits between them over the last year (one of them has had 198,000 alone). Do you think it is worth trying to earn money from them? I think we should, but my wife isn't sure. What is your advice?

Hi Lea! I definitely encourage you to start a blog. For my personal blog, I use www.blogspot. If you don't have much experience with website design, layouts, formatting, etc, blogspot is great because it creates all that for you and you can customize everything pretty easily. Not only is blogging a great hobby and a fun way to document your life, but it's an awesome way to make friends and connect with others with similar interests and lives. My tip here is to comment on blogs and posts that you like so you can begin forming friendships. Let me know if you have any other questions! Good luck on your blogging journey!

Hi Sarah, I am interested in starting to blog myself. I find it therapeutic and love to share my thoughts, ideas, reviews, general advice, makeup tips and things like that. I would like to ask you where should I start. Is there a good blogging website? Should I build my own website? Thanks for any help you can offer! You gave great advice and I am now taking initiative to start. I have been thinking about doing this for a while now. Thank you!

Blogging is fun! But I think that if you're just in it for the money, readers will be able to tell that you aren't being entirely genuine. If you are passionate about your content, the readers will come.
