What it is

Pancreatic Cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancers, and unless detected in its early stages, is not curable. The Lustgarten Foundation was founded to advance the scientific and medical research related to the diagnosis, treatment, cure, and prevention of pancreatic cancer.

Why it was founded

The organization was founded in 1998 and supported by Cablevision Systems Corporation, which lost a beloved executive, Marc Lustgarten, to the disease. Since then, Cablevision has worked with the Lustgarten Foundation to underwrite all administrative expenses and ensure that 100 percent of money donated to the foundation goes directly to pancreatic cancer research.

How it is making a difference

Among its many efforts to find a cure for pancreatic cancer, the Lustgarten Foundation started the Cure PC Campaign to raise public awareness about the disease, which currently only has a 6 percent survival rate. This awareness campaign includes a series of public service announcements on television, radio, print advertisement and online. The Lustgarten Foundation has funded impressive efforts to learn more about pancreatic cancer and how to properly diagnosis and treat it. Among these efforts is a current study that has made impressive progress in discovering a method to detect pancreatic cancer in its earliest stages.

Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk/Run

The Lustgarten Foundation’s Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk/Run is one of the foundation’s major fundraising opportunities. To date, Walk/Run events have raised more than $16.1 million for pancreatic cancer research. Participants can raise money through personal donations or through seeking out donations from friends and families. All donations (100 percent) received through the Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk/Run go directly to funding scientific ingenuity to find a cure for a disease that has already taken too many lives.
