The United Negro College Fund is a philanthropic organization that provides scholarships for black students. It enables more than 60,000 students each year to get a college education. UNCF is the nation’s largest and most successful minority education organization. They serve as a national advocate speaking out on the importance of education.
UNCF was founded in 1944 to award students from low- and moderate-income families with scholarships and internship programs so they can afford tuition, supplies and room and board. They strive to live up to their universally recognized motto, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste,” by providing these opportunities to students.
Over the past 67 years, UNCF has raised more than $3.3 billion to aid students. Outside the U.S. government, UNCF has distributed the most funds to help minorities achieve a college education.
The UNCF: Walk for Education has been going strong for several years. The event attracts students, parents, educators, and community members that believe education is a top priority. Walk participants will raise funds that will help save UNCF’s historical black colleges and universities, and provide financial assistance for the children in their communities.
