Statement necklaces aren't just trendy, they are the perfect way to quickly add pizzazz to any outfit. However, some can retail for more than $500 at boutiques and department stores. Save yourself the pocket change and make your own gorgeous, one-of-a-kind statement piece for less than $10!

All you need to make this beautiful necklace are some teardrop crystal beads, a silver chain and some nail polish. Really, that's it! Not only is this a quick and fun way to spruce up a boring white T-shirt, it's also a great holiday gift or present for your bridesmaids.

Chic was never so easy or cheap.

What you'll need:

8 crystal teardrops (can buy here)
Long chain (like this)
8 extra chain links
Colored nail polish
Needle nose pliers

Step 1: Paint your teardrops

Place old newspaper, cardboard or paper down on your table. Then, one by one, paint the teardrops with your nail polish. You'll have to let each side dry before you paint the other.

Teardrops will need at least an hour or so to dry completely before you can hang them.

Step 2: Open chain links and hang gems

Using your pliers, pull apart the eight individual chain links so that you can loop them through the small hole on the top of the tear drop and link through the chain necklace band. Hint: it might be easier to use two pliers to pull the chain apart.
