Summer is quickly approaching, which means it's time to start thinking about fun at the lake. With so many amazing lakes across the US, it can be tough to choose from all of the great options, so we've done some homework for you. You can't go wrong with these 10 great lakes.

Crater Lake

At 1,943 feet deep, Oregon’s Crater Lake (above) is the deepest lake in the US and one of the 10 deepest in the world. Clean and incredibly blue, Crater Lake boasts scenic beauty, with sheer cliffs and two gorgeous islands.


Great Pond

The largest in the chain of Belgrade Lakes in central Maine, Great Pond offers 8,000 acres of crystal-clear water, great fishing and quaint vacation cottages. Great Pond served as the inspiration for On Golden Pond, the play-turned-motion picture by American playwright Ernest Thompson, who spent his childhood summers on Great Pond.

One of the most beautiful lakes I have every visited is Norris Lake in the Foothills of the Cumberland & Smokey Mountains.

Looks like the author of this article hasn't been to these places. Tahoe should certainly come in above #10.

Such a wonderful article with lots of informative lake information! Once every summer I drag the kids away from the swimming pool and take them to the nearest lake. The natural beauty of a large body of water blows them away. I grew up on a lake so these trips are like being back home for me.
