Chic carry-on essentials for traveling in style

Ready for takeoff

With ever-increasing baggage fees, taking a carry-on bag has never made more sense -- but with small overhead bins and TSA restrictions, figuring out what to bring along can present a challenge. Our favorite carry-on items will easily fit into your carry-on bag and will leave you looking and feeling refreshed when you step off the plane!

1Hand cream

Airplanes are very drying, and you'll want to keep yourself hydrated and moisturized -- so bring along a travel-size tube or jar of your favorite hand cream. One of our favorites is Clarins Hand and Nail Treatment Cream ($30). If you don't want to purchase a smaller tube or your favorite doesn't come in a smaller container, buy small plastic pill containers like this Round Pill Box ($0.99) and fill with your lotion.

2Cashmere wrap

A good wrap like Nordstrom's Tissue Weight Cashmere Wrap ($98) can serve so many purposes. Not only does it make a cute addition to your outfit, you can unfold it to keep warm on the flight or roll it up to create a pillow to rest your head during your in-flight nap.

Turn the plane ride into a mini spa-day for your feet by bringing along a pair of socks and moisturizer -- just lather the moisturizer onto your feet and put on the socks. Your feet will stay cozy and when you arrive, they'll be nice and soft!

4Face lotion with SPF

Moisturize before takeoff with a lotion containing SPF, like Bliss Fabulous Face Lotion with SPF 15 ($35). To protect your face from the sun. (You may also want to keep the shades pulled to further protect your face from the sun.) Try using a tinted moisturizer to give your skin a smooth finish without applying makeup on the plane -- one of our favorites is Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 ($42).

5All-in-one makeup

Makeup can take up a lot of space in your bag, so consolidate and get an all-in-one makeup kit that contains blush, eyeshadow, lipstick, and brushes. The Iman Makeup Kit ($20) is compact and will easily fit into your carry-on or purse.
