Add Style To
A Feline Necessity
A litter box is an absolute must-have when you own a cat. That doesn’t mean it can’t be stylish. Read on to learn how to make your own litter box cover with a fun and functional built-in dust mat.
Step two:
Using your main fabric, cut out a rectangle for the bottom of your dust mat measuring 1" larger than that same side of the piece you cut for the bottom x 18". My piece was 15" x 18". Cut out your canvas 2" smaller on all sides than your dust mat bottom. Now figure out the area of your box and cut that length x 5" wide for your cover sides. My box area is 64" {14"+14+18"+18"} plus 2" = 66" x 5". You will need to piece two 5" tall strips together and then cut to size.

Step three:
The canvas piece (mat top) is smaller than the bottom to create a border of the printed fabric. To sew, pin right sides together on just the sides, lining up only one of the opposite seams. The other side will not line up. Stitch. Turn and press. Topstitch.

Fold over the raw edge that has overage and press. Fold over, encasing the raw edge and press again. Topstitch.
