Shattering The Glass Ceiling

It's long been established that women are just as qualified as men are to handle some of the toughest careers out there. But there are just some successful women who seem to handle it all without breaking a sweat. Here, learn how to shatter that glass ceiling with a stiletto as we reveal seven habits of wildly successful women.

Power lunch, anyone?

It takes a very organized woman to handle a successful career and home life. Make that PDA work for you so you don't miss a meeting or something really important, like your daughter's dance recital. Be realistic about your schedule and never commit to something unless you know you can be there. An emergency aside, canceling or not showing up is irresponsible.

Work it to success

Networking is a fantastic way to get to know other professionals that could benefit from your business or vice versa. People tend to do business with those that they like and trust. Beyond your professional setting, always be on the lookout for a potential new client, business prospect or other professional connection. It's also a good idea to join a group of professionals in your industry. It's amazing how much you can learn from others in your same field.

The genuine article

You've heard it before -- think outside the box. Being different shows creativity, and businesses and consumers are constantly looking for a fresh approach. But this is something you just can't fake. Be true to yourself in every situation, and your passion will naturally shine through.

Financial savvy

Be smart about your money and be an active participant is how it is being spent, saved or allocated, whether in your home or business life. Even if you have a trusted advisor, make sure you keep tabs on your finances.

Give of yourself

What goes around comes around in every aspect of life. Be generous with your natural gifts. Become a mentor. Donate to a cause you are passionate about. Future employers love to see community efforts and volunteerism on a resume.

Blow off steam

With all this giving, it is easy to become depleted, so don't forget to give back to yourself too! Take a little time each day to nourish your soul, whether you take in a 5 a.m. boxing class or get your nails done after work. Consider these things "meetings" in your schedule that should not be skipped or cancelled. Your time with you is just as important as your time with everyone else.

Balance

At the end of the day, you have to consider what is most important in your life. When you put those things, what ever they may be, on the top of your priority list, everything else just falls into place. Sometimes all it takes is a little perspective.

Balance is key with anything. The most successful people are usually pretty balanced. They have hobbies and things they enjoy outside of work. Life is all about balance, or else it's not worth it.
