Diet-Friendly Autumn Treats

When breezes turn cool and cardigans cover tank tops, your cravings switch from summer's iced coffees and lemonades to hot chocolates and apple ciders. When autumn arrives, your palate is re-awakened by the tantalizing tastes of cinnamon, apple, pumpkin and chocolate. Of course, it is only natural to "eat seasonally" but it is equally important to make sure these seasonal treats do not overwhelm your daily caloric intake. Here are some diet-friendly sweets, courtesy of Hungry Girl.


Hungry Girl's Freakishly Good Fat-Free Frozen Hot Chocolate

Serves 1

Frozen Hot ChocolateIngredients:
1 packet Nestle Fat Free Hot Cocoa Mix or any other 25-calorie hot cocoa mix
3 ounces hot water
2 ounces 8th Continent Light Vanilla Soymilk
1/2 ounce Torani Sugar Free Syrup, White Chocolate or Vanilla
2 packets Splenda
1 teaspoon sugar-free chocolate syrup
1 cup ice
Fat Free Reddi-wip

Directions:
Dissolve hot cocoa mix, chocolate syrup and Splenda in hot water. Add soymilk and Torani syrup. Pour into blender. Add ice. Blend on the highest speed for about 45 seconds, or until well blended. Pour into a tall mug. Top with a squirt of Fat Free Reddi-wip.

Per serving: 60 calories, 0g fat, 188mg sodium, 8g carbs, 1g fiber, 6g sugars, 2.5g protein

Hungry Girl's Ooey Gooey Caramel Apple Cider

Serves 1

Hot cider with caramel and whipped cream doesn't have to set you back hundreds of calories. To make this apple-licious treat at home, mix a packet of Alpine Sugar Free Spiced Cider with 6 to 8 ounces of water. Add a teaspoon of T. Marzetti's Light Caramel Apple Dip – then top with a small cloud of Fat Free Reddi-Wip.

Per serving: 50 calories*, less than 1g of fat, 10 carbs

Hungry Girl's Pumpkin Cream Dream

Serves 1

Add 1 teaspoon instant coffee, 1 Splenda packet and 1 teaspoon Jenny's Country Kitchen Pumpkin Pie dessert creamer to 6 ounces hot water. Stir. Add 1 ounce light vanilla soy milk and top with a squirt of Fat Free Reddi-Wip.

Per serving: 35 calories*, <1g fat, 5 carbs
