Start by drawing and cutting out a heart shape from 2 pieces of fabric. You can do this at the same time with 1 piece of fabric right side up and the other right side down. Fold in half and draw a half heart and cut out with your scissors.
Optional step: Iron your heart cut-out if needed to get out the center crease or any wrinkles.
Turn your fabric so that both pieces are right side together on top of one another
Pin together the fabric pieces.
Sew around the outside of the heart using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Leave a 2-inch opening toward the bottom of the heart to turn right side out. Remove the pins as you sew. This will create your pillow case.
Turn your pillow right side out through the small opening you left at the bottom of the case. Use a thin blunt object to help push out the seams if needed.
Stuff the pillow with batting through the hole in the bottom.
Using embroidery thread and a needle, sew a simple stitch (cross stitch or blanket stitch will add a bit of character) over the open hole at the bottom of the pillow. Tie off the stitch and cut off any excess thread.
This completes your pillow. Make a few more in different sizes and colors. Use them for your couch, on a side chair or as an extra toss pillow for the bed to add a bit of Valentine's Day cheer to your home decor.
