Blogger traditions: Christmas decor ideas

Pick up some great tips from these bloggers

From SheKnows Canada
Want to dress up your home in a special way this holiday season but not sure how? Four great Canadian bloggers share their best Christmas decor tips.

The Creek Line Christmas wreath

Use fresh cedar

Courtenay at The Creek Line House uses fresh cedar boughs to create a fancy, rich look for her holiday decor. And don't worry, she promises it's far quicker, easier and cheaper than it looks.

You can create handmade decor pieces such as this welcoming Christmas wreath for yourself with ease. Courtenay explains, "You can pick up bunches of greenery fairly inexpensively at grocery and home improvement stores, or even better, get out the garden clippers, and grab some from your own yard!" If you need more Christmas inspiration, be sure to check out her Project Gallery, or visit her on Facebook or Pinterest for more great holiday ideas!

Kim Vallee Christmas decor

Spread festive vignettes around the house

We love the fact Kim from At Home with Kim Vallee chooses to spread smaller decor set-ups throughout the house rather than put all her energy into the tree. That way, she explains, she can reinvent her holiday decor every year depending on her mood or what's in vogue. Not sure where to start? Kim likes undertaking DIY projects that mix new ornaments with old ones. She also recommends incorporating everyday items into festive decorations. For instance, framing leftover Christmas wrapping or special holiday cards in a large, multi-opening frame. She also encourages visiting local farmers markets and floral shops to find holiday decorations. This festive tangerine tower is a lovely way to welcome guests, especially when you pair it with a small, lighted pine tree and a few festive baubles. So simple and elegant. And for more creative ideas, check out her post on how to decorate and entertain with chocolate this year — it doesn't get much better than that! You can also keep up-to-date with all of Kim's tips through Twitter, Facebook or her professional website.

Shannon Acheson Christmas decor

Master the elegant yet cozy look

Dean and Shannon Acheson are the unbelievably talented DIY geniuses behind aka design. They know how hard it can seem to achieve a balance between cozy and chic when putting together holiday decor. That's why they recommend mixing something shiny or a little bit of "bling" with rustic, natural elements to create well-balanced holiday arrangements. This table centrepiece, for instance, combines elegant silver balls with pine cones and branches for a simple but classy display. Vanessa Francis Christmas decor

Set up a wintery mantel

Vanessa Francis at decor happy certainly knows how to put together a stunning winter mantel. Every year she opts for a fun new look, and this year she put together a gorgeous woodland theme. She achieved this particular look by enlarging a wintery photo she took and then surrounding it with inexpensive decorations, such as acrylic and sparkly deer from the grocery store, a wood heart from HomeSense and a wooden bird from a nearby greenhouse. The large vintage candlesticks add height and sparkle, while the burlap brings in some texture. And when Christmas gets nearer, greenery and stockings can be added in a flash. Talk about an easy transition! Vanessa also encourages anyone who doesn't have a mantel to create a similar vignette on a tabletop.
