This delightfully simple DIY lip scrub is perfect for polishing lips and prepping them for your favorite lipstick or gloss.
Lips need a good scrub every week, and this recipe is great for nourishing and conditioning dry lips after the long winter.
Using a lip scrub regularly helps to gently buff away dry flakes while moisturizing and smoothing lips at the same time.
This easy recipe is made right from products out of your own kitchen. The fine grains of the sugar gently re-texturize the skin while the olive oil conditions the lips. The honey uses antibacterial amino acids to also moisturize the lips, which helps them hold color better once they have a smooth finish.
Tip: Use this on your nail beds too to nourish your cuticles and smooth away dry skin.
Step 1: Scoop 1 tablespoon of sugar into a small dish.
Step 2: Pour 1 teaspoon of olive oil into the dish with the sugar.
Step 3: Pour 1/2 teaspoon of honey into the dish.
Step 4: Mix all the ingredients together until a rough paste is formed.
Step 5: Apply the mixture to your lips with a soft bristle toothbrush or a finger. Gently scrub back and forth along the top and bottom lip.
Step 6: Remove any excess with a moistened paper towel.
Step 7: Apply your favorite lipstick or DIY Lip Gloss
Step 8: Store any excess in a sealable container for up to a week.
Now those lips will be begging to be kissed.
The benefits of each ingredient:
Sugar: produces glycolic acid which helps exfoliate and stimulate collagen production.
Olive oil: contains vitamins E and K and fatty acids that aid in moisturizing.
Honey: contains natural antibacterial amino acids that help condition the lips.
Lip scrubs are great for moisturizing the lips and removing dry skin. Be careful, however; too much scrubbing can irritate the skin. Also remember to use a good SPF when going out in the sun afterward.
