How to... make a letter craft

Decorative letters are easy to make, fun to create, and make for a perfect baby shower or wedding gift. With so many styles and options to choose from, you're sure to create one you love.

Supplies

  • Wooden letter
  • Mod Podge glue
  • Foam or large paint brush
  • Decorative scrapbook paper
  • Scissors
  • 2” wide sheer ribbon
  • Stapler

Step 1: Trace and cut

Place the wooden letter upside down on the back of the scrapbook paper. Trace the wooden letter onto the scrapbook paper and cut out. This leaves you with a paper cut-out of your decorative letter, perfectly matching the wooden one.

Step 2: Glue time

Place Mod Podge glue all over the front of the wooden letter using a foam brush or large regular paintbrush. Carefully place the scrapbook paper, decorative side up, on top and press down.

Next, place a layer of Mod Podge glue on top of the glued scrapbook paper, including the edges, leaving a shiny, finished look. Let dry for one hour.

Step 3: Ribbon

Cut two 2-foot pieces of ribbon. Staple one piece of ribbon to the top left of the back of the letter and the other piece to the top right side. Tie a large bow at the top. The bow will be used to hang the letter on your wall. That’s it – you’re done!

Ideas for display

Decorative letters make a perfect wedding or baby shower gift, can be placed on a bookshelf in an office or you can spell out a child’s name and hang in their room. The result is beautiful and the options are endless, so have fun with this simple DIY craft.
