How to... decorate votive candles

Want to add votive candles to your wedding? Learn how to make decorative votive candles for any theme.

What you'll need:

No matter what your wedding theme may be, these items can be found at any local craft store:

Votive candle (2 inches high)
Ribbon in the color of your choice
Hot glue gun
Any embellishments you wish to add

Step 1: Glue and fold

Cut 7 inches of your ribbon and place on a flat surface such as a table or desk. Make sure your hot glue gun is ready, then place a small streak of glue along the inner edge of your ribbon. The glue should be placed far enough in so you can fold over the rough edge of the ribbon. Next, fold in the rough edge and place pressure on the ribbon to make sure it is secure.

Step 2: Wrap

Take the ribbon and gently wrap it around the center part of the candle. Once you have measured this, take the ribbon and place a dot of glue on the end that is not folded in. You want to make sure the end that is not rough shows up on top.

Step 3: Decorate

For this step you can use just about anything to embellish your candle. Take your hot glue gun and place a circle of glue on the back of your embellishment. Hold in place for a few seconds to make sure it is secure. Keep in mind your theme for the wedding. If your theme is more elegant and chic, you could use an embellishment that has pearls. If your theme is more fall-oriented, perhaps a simple leaf will do. In the video, Christy Kelman uses a rhinestone crested appliqué, which works for most wedding themes. Also keep in mind your color scheme; this can help you with ideas. Visiting any local craft store will also spark creativity.

Repeat these steps for as many candles you wish to have at your wedding and they will surely be the center of attention!
