How To... Banish Earaches With This Quick Fix
Nobody wants to deal with an earache during the hottest months of the year! Try our quick fix to treat and beat this summer ailment.
So you took the kids for an afternoon swim, and now your little one is telling you she has an earache! Chances are she's developed a case of swimmer's ear. This nasty little infection is caused by bacteria found in soil and water; if pool water gets trapped in the outer ear canal, it warms and creates the perfect environment for bacteria to grow.
However, you can beat swimmer's ear this summer. Apply this healing mixture after each poolside adventure, and you'll be free of the problem in no time.
What you'll need:
Step 1: Dry your ear
Use a soft towel to gently soak up as much moisture as possible.
Step 2: Make your concoction
Take a small dish and pour equal parts rubbing alcohol and white vinegar into it. Stir well. The rubbing alcohol will kill bacteria and help dry up any water remaining in the outer ear canal. The white vinegar also helps destroy fungus and bacteria.
Step 3: Soak it up and apply
Take a fresh cotton ball and set it in the mixture. When the cotton ball has absorbed enough liquid (dripping wet), tilt your head to the side and apply to the infected ear. Allow the liquid to drip into your ear and keep the cotton ball in place for a few minutes.
Step 4: Remove and take stock
After you remove the cotton ball, soak up excess liquid around the ear canal. Try this remedy after every swim, until the aching goes away. However, if the pain persists or becomes worse, see your doctor immediately.
