A garden shed is a combination of a workshop and garage, as well as a place to store extra seeds, planters and garden tools. Since you're in and out of it so much, removing and replacing items, it doesn't take long to get it out of order. Here's how to get your shed back in shape:

  • Hooks give you a place to hang handled tools, making them more accessible (and safer) than a stack of rakes and spades in a corner.

  • Small tools are best kept on shelves, where they don't get mixed up with larger piles of equipment and become lost. Moving some of the smaller clutter off the floor will also give you more workspace, and room for the bigger power tools, like the lawnmower. Shelves are ideal for storing extra planter pots and jars of seeds. Chemicals and solutions should be kept on high shelves, out of children's reach.

  • Container drawers are perfect for gardening odds and ends that you don't want to lose, as well as books that you don't want getting dusty and dirty. Whether you store your seed jars in drawers or directly on the shelves, be sure to label them with the plant variety and date.

Even if your garden shed looks like a disaster now, you should be able to rein it in in only a couple hours.
