New is always exciting. Every year, new vegetable varieties come out as the result of genetic improvements and hybrid combinations. Some of these variants grow faster, taste better or are disease-resistant. Some are so unique that they're more of a novelty, and, I must admit, really cool! Check out the latest in seed science and be one of the first to grow new vegetables in 2011!

Some of the New Vegetable Seeds available for 2011:

White Satin is a fast-maturing white carrot (68 days) that is crisp and has a sweet flavor. Colored carrots are nothing new, as red, yellow and purple carrots have been around for years. However, these white carrots are new  and offer a fancy way to dress up your dinner plate.

Caralex is a new cone-shaped mini cabbage with a rich cabbage flavor. The heads are very uniform and the tight leaf wrapping protects inner leaves from insects and sun damage. Great for salads, slaws or cooking.

Orange crisp is a new orange, seedless watermelon variety. The melon has a thick rind to protect it from sunburn, and fruit average 15-18 lb. This unique watermelon is beautiful for cut fruit displays and salads.

Blush is a new cherry tomato variety that shows a pink "blush" when they are ripe to pick. The 2-inch tomatoes have a tropical flavor, similar to pineapple!

Limelight is a new zucchini hybrid with a creamy light green color. Fruits average 8-inches long and mature in about 50 days. This new variety has won taste tests and is a must for any zucchini lover!
