Brighten up your life

Welcome to Decorating Diva, where every week we share fresh, fun ways to update your home and spice up your living space! Sick of winter's gray skies already? So are we, which is why we're brightening things up in every room with cool, colorful home accents.

Table lamp

Table lamp

Adding a bold table lamp to a room is a great way to brighten things up and add a pop of color to any surface. We know tangerine is no longer the must-have color of the year, but we still have a soft spot for all things citrus-hued. One of our newest must-haves for the home is this orange table lamp with glazed ceramic body and linen shade (westelm.com, $129).

Pillow

Pillow

We were instantly smitten with this bold turquoise pillow perfect for breathing new life into a coach or chair that could use a boost (cb2.com, $40). Place two or three on any neutral piece of furniture to give it an instant face-lift this winter. While you might not associate such an eye-catching shade with winter, we say why not go bold this season?

Vase

Vase

There's something about yellow home accessories that makes us smile. Yellow is bright, it's whimsical and it's an ideal shade for adding a touch of warmth to your space when the temperature dips. Add some fresh cut or dried flowers to this sunny-hued square earthenware vase with pretty basket weave pattern (crateandbarrel.com, $100).

Mason jars

Mason jars

Use these oversize bright blue Mason jars made from recycled glass (potterybarn.com, $179 to $229) as stand-alone decorative pieces, fill them with tall floral arrangements or use them as stylish storage for smaller items. We love the cheerful hue but also the fact that each artisan-made jar is one-of-a-kind so no two are exactly alike.

Chevron throw

Chevron throw

Like pillows, vibrant throws are another easy but effective way to add some color to a neutral room, and we're currently coveting these on trend chevron-print throws that come in various bold hues (horchow.com, $195). We're partial to the green and white, but go for whichever shade best complements your decor.

Paper pots

Paper pots

Trade your boring box of tissues for something a little more decorative — and a lot more colorful. We love these round plastic pots that unscrew to hold either tissues or a roll of toilet paper, depending on where you plan to put it (uncommongoods.com, $39). The functional accents come in several bold hues, including pink, blue, green and orange.

Floor lamp

Floor lamp

Give your living room or home office a brightening boost with a colorful floor lamp like this one with simple, vintage-inspired design and adjustable domed top that comes in four shades, including yellow, green and turquoise (urbanoutfitters.com, $89).

Enamel teapot

Enamel teapot

Inject some bold color into teatime with this sleek, stylish enamel teapot in a vibrant shade of red (anthropologie.com, $88). The get-noticed color and elegant design mean that you'll want to keep this piece on display on the counter versus keeping it in the cupboard.
