Quick Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most important and most used rooms in your home. Simplify your routine and maximize your time in the kitchen with these great tips.

Simple dishes

While a neutral-colored dish set may sound boring, it can help avoid a clutter overload. A simple dish set can be dressed up for parties or dressed down for an everyday meal. Plus, if you have the same set of dishes, they are easier to stack in the cupboard. Not to mention, a neutral dish set can be a bit lighter on the family budget. An instant space, money and time saver.

Not sure what to do with mismatched dishes? Go green by donating them to a local women's shelter, or make some extra cash for the holidays by selling what you don't use at a yard sale.

Meal planning

It's all over your favorite blogs and Pinterest boards — a fabulous way to save time and money is to plan your meals. Go ahead and get out your grocery ads, go through your refrigerator to see what you've already got stockpiled and log onto the recipe websites that are designed to help you meal plan. By using technology to work with what you've already got on hand and purchasing items that are on sale, you'll end up saving time and money.

Chalkboard refrigerator

Love the idea of hanging a chalkboard in your kitchen as a meal planner, but have nowhere to put it? Put it on the refrigerator! A great DIY project is to tape off necessary areas (like handles, water/ice maker, etc.), prime the area that you would like as your chalkboard, and roll a coat or two with chalkboard paint. Voila! You have an instant art space for kids and a timesaver for mom. For a full tutorial, see The Handmade Home to help you turn your fridge into a chalkboard masterpiece.

Put it where you use it

An easy and great way to simplify your kitchen routine is to store kitchen items where you use them. Put all of your rolling pins, mixing bowls, mixers and whisks by your baking pans. Put all of your spatulas, frying pans and any other essential meal-cooking items in one spot so you don't have to scour your kitchen when cooking dinner.

Simplified Tip

Gather your necessary items when meal planning on Sunday. That way, when you are pressed for time during the week, you won't have to waste any of it finding the items you need.
