Alfresco grey folding chair

Dual duty chair

This Alfresco gray folding chair ($169) is beautiful enough to use indoors, yet sturdy — and weatherproof — enough to do outdoor duty. With a variety of cushion colors to choose from, you can coordinate with your decor. The chairs are easy to store and so eye-catching you may find yourself using them as permanent seating.

Cyclone indoor/outdoor folding chair

Not your grandmother's chair

Remember those cold metal folding chairs your grandmother kept in the storage closet for special occasions? Folding chairs have grown up, become fashionable and even a bit trendy. The Cyclone indoor/outdoor folding chair ($140 for 2) comes in great colors, folds up easily and stores away for those impromptu Friday night taco parties. They look so trendy, you may not want to call them folding chairs.

square storage ottoman

Seating that's not square

Storage ottomans are the secret weapon of your home decor. Not only can they provide extra seating, you can store all sorts of things in them — think board games, throw pillows, blankets or placemats and napkins. Square-shaped ottomans fit neatly underneath a side table or sofa table, keeping them out of the way until you need a spare seat. This square storage ottoman ($100) will do double-duty quite nicely.

mission bench

Bench warmer

Benches are a great option for extra seating when you need it. A wooden bench can be used in a hallway, mudroom or kitchen on a daily basis, then moved to where the party is when you need another seat or two. This mission bench ($139) is simple, yet classic in style and comes in several different finishes.

Great ideas!! I wish I would have read this article BEFORE my house warming party last month! Seating can be difficult when lots of people are involved. Luckily, my friend was able to bring over a bunch of camping chairs to lounge in outside. Inside we had the couch, ottoman, table, and STAIRCASE! Yes, people actually sat on our staircase.

I always have the problem of not knowing where to put everybody when I host parties. Part of this is due to more people showing up than I originally invite, but part of it is due to my poor party planning. Guests usually end up standing or sitting on the floor, and it looks quite awful. I feel as if I should be punished for being such a bad hostess. Since I am on a budget, stocking up on some of the $17 “cheap seats” looks like my best option. I like how they come in 3 different colors so I can mix things up. The ottoman also looks like a good thing to have as it can serve several functions (from storage chest to foot rest) when it is not being used as a party seat.
