Celebrity Designers
Bravo recently premiered Million Dollar Decorators, a new show that follows five of L.A.’s most sought-after interior decorators' work and personal lives. SheKnows interviewed each of the designers to give you the inside skinny on what makes them tick. California native Nathan Turner talks travel and shares his comfortable, eclectic design style.
After setting up shop in Los Angeles, Nathan Turner merged his greatest passions -- design, travel and food -- into a design haven for the country's leading interior designers. (He even fashioned a full kitchen in his store so that he could host intimate dinners and parties on site -- sounds like a little slice of heaven.) His parties, products and designs have been featured in national and regional publications. SheKnows: What inspires your design process?Nathan Turner: I am inspired by travel -- I love to explore new places. When I do, I almost always come back inspired by something I saw. SheKnows: How would you describe your personal design style?Nathan Turner: I personally like an "undecorated" collected look, comfortable but stylish. Meet the designers behind Million Dollar Decorators >> SheKnows: Which of your celebrity clients' design styles matches your own personal style the most?Nathan Turner: Amanda Peet and I have very similar tastes.
SheKnows: For those of us working with more modest budgets, what design elements are worth splurging on?Nathan Turner: An antique that you truly love is a great splurge -- it will be with you for the rest of your life. SheKnows: What elements do you think we can save on?Nathan Turner: Fabrics. You can splurge on a beautiful pattern for pillows and use a less expensive solid for the large furniture.
SheKnows: What design trends do you wish would go away?Nathan Turner: Hollywood Regency.
