De-cluttering your home is much simpler once you start organizing your belongings. So start by organizing like items, keep your books, DVD's and CD's together. This way it is easier to find what you are looking for as well as find places to store them. DVD and CD storage boxes are also a great option if you have run out of room on your book shelves.

Clean out all of your closets and pitch or donate what you don't need (this includes all rooms and your coat and linen closets). Cleaning out your closets once or twice a year keeps your closet from turning into a jungle and once it's cleaned out, shelf organizers (starting at $4.99 at The Container Store) are great for all of your organizing needs.

A great way to keep your front entrance clear is to keep coats in the garage. So next time you are at Home Depot or Lowes, pick up coat hooks for your garage wall (if you don't have a garage, try installing the hooks inside your closet for extra hanging space). This is a cheap way to keep winter clothes out of sight and stored until next winter.

Storing winter clothes under the bed in under the bed storage is a great way to create extra space in your closet without getting rid of clothes that you will need again in winter. Ikea and Target both offer inexpensive under-the-bed storage bins, and to keep your stuff smelling great throw in a few dryer sheets or cedar chips, which will keep moths away.

No one wants their houseguests tripping on their way in! When you start noticing mountains of winter boots and shoes in your entryway, a storage bench is a perfect solution. Tuck your shoes away and keep your guests safe from shoe-related injuries!

Clear off counters and surfaces -- get everything that you don't use every day off of your counters and tables, it will make a huge difference. Not everything you own needs to be on display -- it's distracting and you want your space to be comforting not agitating.

A simple way to get some extra space both under and on your counters is to toss old cosmetics, prescriptions and hair products. Another tip is to use Tupperware to organize your cosmetics and other products below the sink.

If you don't have a pet, take plastic shopping bags back to the grocery store or to a local dog park (both usually offer drop-off places). Once you have gotten rid of all those bags try to stick with reusable shopping bags, it will help you de-clutter your kitchen or pantry and you can feel great about yourself for going green.

Take old magazines and books to a nearby retirement home or after school center, this will help you clear some space on your book shelves and in your kids' rooms. This will not only de-clutter your shelves but you will be doing a great deed for your community.

Everyone hates junk mail and it always seems to pile up quickly, so do yourself a favor and get a paper shredder. Keep it by where you open your mail and put whatever is junk straight into the shredder. Paper shredders can cost upward of $34 at OfficeMax but are well worth it.
